Math
Unit 1: Place Value and Decimal Fractions
Unit 2: Multi – Digit Whole Numbers and Decimal Fractions Operations
Unit 3: Addition and Subtraction of Fractions Unit 4: Multiplication and Division of Fractions and Decimal Fractions Unit 5: Addition and Multiplication with Volume and Area Unit 6: Problem Solving with the Coordinate Plane

Grade 5 mathematics will focus on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and decimals; extending division to 2-digit divisors, developing fluency with whole number and decimal operations; and developing understanding of volume.

Science
Unit 1: Patterns in the Sky
Unit 2: Remarkable Reactions
Unit 3: The Water Cycle
Unit 4: Conserving Earth’s Resources
Unit 5: Save the Bay
Unit 6: Amazing Adaptations

Grade 5 science is a hands-on curriculum based on the SABES curriculum co-developed by Johns Hopkins and City Schools and aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards and Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards. Students will be able to complete unit projects using rubrics that require research and/or their creativity to summarize each unit.

  • Composition Notebook or Spiral Notebook (1 for math, 1 for science)
  • Pencils, Erasers
  • Binder with dividers (1 section for math, 1 section for science)
  • Crayons/Markers
